Sri Lanka is a majestic island located close to India. Sri Lanka was told from many to be the most beautiful island in the whole world. There are many things to see and experience in Sri Lanka as it offers the experience of mountain and sea as well. In Sri Lanka are produced, the really famous native cinnamon, gems, tea, coffee and other products. The tropical climate of Sri Lanka is very beneficial for the production of the things mentioned above. Sri Lanka definitely provides a magnificent experience, for people of all ages. But there are, of course some places that you definitely should not miss and that you would definitely don’t forget.

01. PINNAWALA ELEPHANT ORPHANAGE.

Have you ever visited an Elephant orphanage? Pinnawala is a Village in Kegalle District. Its 90 km away from Capital,Colombo and around 80km away from Kandy. Under 20 Minutes travel from Kegalle town you can reach one of beauteous elephant orphanage in the world. Pinnawala elephant orphanage is established in 1975 and now there are 78 Asian Elephants living in Pinnawala.

02. SRI DALADA MALIGAWA (TEMPLE OF THE TOOTH)

One place that you should definitely not miss in Sri Lanka is the sacred temple of the tooth. The temple of the tooth, is located in the city of Kandy, and it is a buddistic temple. It was founded almost in the middle of the 14th century. In that beautiful building you can easily watch the ceremonies taking place three times a day, one in the dawn while the sun comes out another in the noon, when the sun is in the middle of the sky and the last one in the afternoon, when the sun is about to fall. The temple is surrounded by a ring of beautiful mountains and river Mahawali Ganga.

03. JETAVANARAMAYA DAGOBA, ANURADHAPURA.

You can as well visit the magnificent Jetavanaramaya. Jetavanaramaya is wonderful structured building and very special according its architecture technique. It is believed as well, to be one of the highest buildings in the ancient world. So, imagine yourself standing in front of it!

04. NUWARA ELIYA CITY

If you visit the Hill Country of Sri Lanka, you are sure to hear about the city of Nuwara Eliya. It has been given the name “Little England” due to its more temperate climate combined with its colonial architecture. It features the Haggala Botanical Gardens that are a short ways out of the city, and an interesting tea factory that offers tours through the fields and plantations that make Hill Country so beautiful. The Seetha Hindu Temple is near the Gardens and is a very important cultural and religious spot. Very near the city there are also many stunning waterfalls that drape the mountains of the Central Province in a misty haze. A definite must see city in Sri Lanka that gives you a look into a unique culture, and an interesting turn from the more common tourist attractions.

05. MIHINTALE CITY.

Mihintale city is something that as well should not miss. That city it is really famous about Buddhism itself. It is surrounded from three hills. Just make a picture in your mind! You can always go climbing up to the hills and see from the top of one of them a modern construction Buddha statue that looks really stunning

06. NATIONAL ZOOLOGICAL GARDEN AND GALLE FACE, COLOMBO.

For those though that love nature, Colombo is just the ideal place to visit. With more than a lot natural interest tourist attractions, such as Colombo Zoological Garden and also, Galle Face Green Promenade which are actually inside the town. Colombo is the capital of Sri Lanka as well.

08. YALA NATIONAL PARK

Yala National Park is located in the southeast region of Sri Lanka, about 190 miles from Colombo. It was created in 1938 and is now an important wildlife refuge for Sri Lankan elephants and the aquatic birds that Sri Lanka is famous for. The western portion of the park is also known for having the highest concentration of leopards in the world. It is one of the best locations for the sighting of elephants and is home to numerous other creatures such as monkeys, wild boars, bears, and crocodiles. They offer tours that show you the wide variety and stunning beauty of the native Sri Lankan wildlife and take you out of civilization for a down to earth experience that you won’t soon forget.

09. UNAWATUNA BEACHES

A smaller beach resort spot in the south part of the country, Unawatuna provides a vacation spot in Sri Lanka for the more traditional vacationer as opposed to a dedicated tourist. Gorgeous beaches are lined with clean, luxurious resorts and palm trees draped above the shore. Jungle Beach offers snorkeling in a removed cove that is protected from the sometimes-strong swells and currents of the open ocean for serene recreation. There is also a Japanese Peace Pagoda up a small hill in the jungle behind the beaches of Unawatuna. The short hike is worth it, as the view offers spectacular photography opportunities and a sunset that is quite amazing to see. For the animal lover, there is a locally run turtle hatchery just down the road where you can see the process of saving these creatures and helping establish them back into their environment. Unawatuna is a nice little village that offers a more calm entertainment that is a welcome change from the business of the bigger cities and travel destinations.

10. SIGIRIYA KINGDOM, ROCK FORTRESS.

Located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is most famous for the palace ruins that rest atop an incredible two hundred meter tall rock face. The ruins themselves are further surrounded by gardens and reservoirs that once fed a community in prehistoric times. The rock face was left behind from an ancient volcano, and was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century. The ruins have a rich history of ancient political unrest and have an impressive array of structures ranging from defensive towers to palaces and gardens that date back to 480 CE when the ancient people there were faced with threats of war. Make sure to see the citadel, which rises two hundred meters to the top and provides amazing bird’s eye views of the entire ruin, and also visit the museum which showcases the excavation process of the ruins and gives excellent perspective on the history of the people that lived there so many years ago. I am Srilankan, and love the country, but feel sad at the sight of elephants carrying people on their backs in those wooden carriers.I have seen photos of the deformities these carriers cause to the elephants and the description of the resulting pain.Many Asian countries have begun to ban these structures.I hope Sr Lanka does as well.The other photos are wonderful, and thankfully I have been to many of those places.
