The deposits are estimated to hold more than 5000 tons of marble.

2. Krubera Cave in Abkhazia, Georgia

Also known as Voronya Cave, this is the deepest cave on the planet, measuring more than 2100 meters in altitude from the entrance to the deepest point ever explored. Its alternative name means “Crow’s Cave” in Russian, given the fact that explorers always used to be welcomed by that species of birds at the entrance of the cavern. Its walls are composed by sandstones, conglomerates and even lava and they are home for more than 12 species of arthropods, including the deepest terrestrial animal of the world, the beetle Catopscavicis.

3. KyrkGyz (Cloth Cave) in Turkmenistan

Located in the Köytendag Mountains, this cave will leave you spellbound thanks to its bizarre walls, full of stalactites decorated with tiny pieces of cloth. The legends say that whoever attaches cloth to these formations with the aid of some mud will have one wish granted. The name of the cave means “Forty Girls’ Cave”, deriving from a myth saying this used to be the refuge of forty girls who wanted to escape from murder and rape. Creepy!

4. Fingal's Cave in Staffa, Scotland

The virgin island of Staffa hosts this wonderful sea cave as part of a National Nature Reserve of Scotland. It names derives from the eponymous hero depicted in James Macpherson’s epic poem. Its Gaelic name, “An UaimhBhinn” means “The Melodious Cave”, due to the amazing acoustics of this place which give the impression of being in a natural concert saloon.
